Activity 6: Google Classroom

There are so many ways this is a great tool! Having used it last year with 3rd graders, I know I only scratched the surface. I am looking forward to using the google drawings for things like t-charts and sequencing things. It is soooooo fun for me to see how other campers are using these tools. Every idea I see from someone else sparks a couple of new ideas for me. Exploring this in the summer really allows me to branch out more.

Last year I primarily used classroom for reading response and collecting a set of great website games for my intervention math students. I did try to do some writing and editing with my students, BUT THE TYPING TAKES SO LONG. I attached some learn zillion videos last year for my intervention math students to review certain concepts and then had some games for practice. I love the idea of adding a response or an exit ticket to the assignment as a quick check-in.

My goal this year is to create assignments that are shorter response. I am excited to have more team members to work with and learn with! I did all 3 levels of the assignment. I really liked the Doctopus/Goobric task. I have not written very many formal rubrics, but to grade like that would be amazing!!!! I love that the rubric is on the same screen as the student's assignment, you can add the comments, and the audio comment makes it a bit more personal. I decided to add an audio comment to my one student I could grade and it sent two copies of the graded rubric.  Practice will make it more efficient, I am sure!

  1. I had trouble with my students' typing skills as well. Do you have a learn to type program that you use with your students that works well? We use type2learn at Pinewood with limited success.

  2. I added comments to some of your Classroom assignments. I am glad to hear that you are finding new ways to use classroom next year and that the interactive parts of this course have been useful for you and your creation of new ideas.

Thank you for pushing yourself and trying all 3 levels. Goobric/Doctopus can be an incredibly powerful tool. Even if you don't use rubrics, Goobric can give you an easy way to add comments and to move from one paper to the next easily.

  3. Your assignments were excellent, Julie, and I learned a lot of great ideas by completing them - thanks for inviting me to your class! :) I especially like the collaborative assignments - fun for students to engage with one another and see each others' responses.
